Google This. This is what we need. These are the kind of steps from which we all benefit. Google has just announced the Open Patent Non-Assertion Pledge: the company promises not to sue any users, distributors, or developers of open source products based on the patents it owns (unless first attacked).

Yesterday, Google announced a feature of a competing product (the offline translation in Google Translate) which directly hits our sales. No Evil? By using their sheer market size and subsidizing (offering) a free product directly competing with (not only) ours, we're going to take a huge hit.


That sounds like normal competition, not evilness. I mean, what do you expect? Them to never, ever release new features for their own software just in the hopes of not stepping on someone else's toes? I mean, yes, it sucks to be put in that position, but chalking it up to evilness sounds childish at best.
