Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Xubuntu Ubuntu 13.04 has been released, with the Linux 3.8.8 kernel, a faster and less resource hungry Unity desktop, LibreOffice 4.0, and much more. Ubuntu users will know where to get it, and you're looking for a new installation, have fun. Also fun: UbuntuKylin.

Has GNOME 3 even got usable yet, as of 3.6 and 3.8? Last I checked, it wasn't even worth using, but 3.4 was slightly "better" (note: that's not saying much) than 3.0 and 3.2. Last I checked, even if you didn't mind the interface (I didn't like it), the desktop still required lots of memory and some strong, compatible 3D graphics hardware if you wanted any chance of running it.

Have there been any major performance/system requirement improvements, and noteworthy GUI improvements since then? Or is it the same old load of crap all around?
