Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Xubuntu Ubuntu 13.04 has been released, with the Linux 3.8.8 kernel, a faster and less resource hungry Unity desktop, LibreOffice 4.0, and much more. Ubuntu users will know where to get it, and you're looking for a new installation, have fun. Also fun: UbuntuKylin.

What the downvoters don't understand is that for most people, a computer is a means, not an end. They buy a computer to run programs on, like they buy a DVD player to watch movies on. They don't just buy Windows or OS X itself (the UI, the kernel etc), they also buy the means to run the awesome apps ISVs have written for Windows or OS X ("they buy the ecosystem" in marketdroid-speak).
So, there you have Linux Desktop, killing a significant part of it's "ecosystem" by making it hard to impossible for proprietary ISVs to ship software on Ubuntu.

But hey, the people in the key positions in Linux Desktop who made the decision to have an unstable API and ABI weren't planning to use that proprietary software anyway, so it "works for them".
