Linux I volunteer as tech support for a small organization. For years we relied on Ubuntu on our desktops, but the users didn't like it when Ubuntu switched to the Unity interface. This article tells about our search for a replacement and why we decided on Xfce running atop Linux Mint.

You really think the average user should be provided easy access to giving direct commands to the kernel? I think not. Just be thankful it's even there in the first place for advanced who actually know what the hell they're doing. The vast majority of people don't even know what "swappiness" is (and probably never will, let alone ever hear the word).
