Linux I volunteer as tech support for a small organization. For years we relied on Ubuntu on our desktops, but the users didn't like it when Ubuntu switched to the Unity interface. This article tells about our search for a replacement and why we decided on Xfce running atop Linux Mint.

I've been hearing this exact same nonsense for well over a decade..literally. So when is linux finally going to "get there"? As a desktop it's never been more than a flash in the pan. Also, in what way is MS getting left behind? They completely dominate the desktop market to the degree that there's no point in even mentioning any of the competition, if you could justify calling it that.

To put it nicely, your claims are less than convincing.

Based on the context of his whole comment, It seems pretty obvious to me that when he said "Linux is getting there", he meant "good enough to fulfill my needs". Anyway, the rest of his claims are pretty straightforward: Windows 7 is not very suitable for his needs. Since you're calling them unconvincing, I guess you know his needs better than he does?
