$3,299 I would rather build a dual, dual core Opteron system and load Ubuntu 5.10. Don't get me wrong, the G5 is a very nice CPU. But take a look at these numbers compareing a G5 runing OSX, Linux, a P4 running Windows and Linux and an Opteron running Linux.

this benchmark may be a litle old, but I would imagine if dual 1.8 GHz Opterons do that to dual G5s, then it would scale up to current CPUs. (the opterons may scale even better with onboard memory controllers)

Basicaly only get the G5s if your app uses Altvec
