Linux I wrote an article a while ago on Linux packaging and Autopackage. There seemed to be quite a lot of interest in it so we got version 0.3 released today.

Installing software is such a hassle for mere mortals to do on Linux right now and finding recent packages for most distros is difficult. I don't think you will have any trouble getting developers to package their software with this. Note that they are not trying to replace RPM or DEB. Those will be useful for distros but for the end user trying to install a package that was not included in your distro this will be a godsend</gush>
