Debian and its clones Debian is not quite like any other distro out there. If bigger is better, then Debian wins hands down. Aside from having the largest collection of free software packages, Debian also runs on 11 platforms. But there is more to Debian than just size. Travel writer and recent Debian convert Robert Storey tackles the whole installation procedure head on and gives his report.

Debian: Gnome centric and not cutting edge enough.....
by Yohan555 on Fri 5th Sep 2003 21:16 UTC

I have always ended up giving up on Debian, simply because its not cutting edge enough for my taste. Really cutting edge development versions that I like to try and play with are not available (Debian packages even in SID seem to be extremely conservative). Finally I prefer using KDE and Debian is clearly Gnome oriented. KDE Add-On Packages for either Mandrake, SuSe or RedHat are available through apps.kde.com but are not available for SID.
