Linux Linux will become ubiquitous in the year 3000. Okay, that was a horrible joke. Linux is just a kernel, the engine that runs an operating system. By itself, it is essentially useless. Kernels shouldn't be discussed or noticed by normal users. And as such when providing these users with reviews, previews and "professional" opinions, computer consultants, computer reviewers and computer journalists should not spew headlines like "Linux is not ready for prime time", "Linux on the desktop by XXX", "Linux to takeover Windows", "Linux is not ready for desktop" and so on.

People here don't know what ...

they are talking about!
They may be some issues with Linux, but if you'd ever had to use the Microsoft documentation/help, you'll know that the Linux documentation is one of the best available. At Microsoft you get strange error messages with idiotic troubleshout help (like: "Is your monitor plugged in?"), but I never saw a usefull help. Usability, an other topic: WinXP may be for the first usage of a computer (but how many of us use the PC now for the very first time??) more suitable than any free desktop, but at least the third time you'll do again the same task, you should know it how it works. But than this, so userfrienly, long lines of underlined text ("links") instead of short and pregnant buttons in WinXP will annoy you: it's simply vasting your time! And even worst: you'll have to live with it the rest of your life, because you can't get the buttons back, not if you stay with Microsoft!
Or, what about integration? One of Microsoft weakest points: completely different shortcuts, menu stuctures and behaviours for similar tasks under Word and Excel, both part of the same suite. The same applies for Outlook and IExplorer. Also much criticized is the difference inbetween Gnome and KDE applications, hey, look at WinXP: every application comes with its own skin and behavior! But, this is cool, because it's WinXP!
Other points:
- in the last 6 years, I'd never had to edit my XF86Config file by hand.
- how many of you (Linux bashers) have succsesfully installed Windows as your second OS on your HD, and still be able to boot both OSes with the Microsoft bootloader?? Or acces other file system?
- the last two years I never had any issues with Hardware and Linux, but many with Hardware and WinXP!
It's a subjective world, and your reasons not to use Linux could turn out to be only excuses for your comfortable life. And therefor your article may turn out to be only FUD!
