It seems to me that by the time it ships, Longhorn will need 4 gigs of RAM.

When MS releases a Windows 'iteration' is irrelevant. When something gets released is determined by marketing needs, and software specifications adapt.
Remembar Cairo? What was that? When was that?
Who's to say that Longhorn isn't another Cairo, and that MS won't release a non-Longhorn Windows earlier, when marketing deems necessary, and say that Longhorn hasn't arrived yet, but you won't believe how good it'll be when it does.
