"640K ought to be enough for anybody." Bill Gates, 1981. "64 bit is coming to desktops, there is no doubt about that, But apart from Photoshop, I can't think of desktop applications where you would need more than 4 gigabytes of physical memory, which is what you have to have in order to benefit from this technology." It seems to me that by the time it ships, Longhorn will need 4 gigs of RAM.

I have very few demands of an OS, regardless of which OS, but they are all about ease of use & reliability:
1. Security is a must on many levels.
2. Fast work & desktop organization of it is paramount w/a dozen apps open & OS Crashes are NOT acceptable.
3. Consistency of a clear interface is needed
4. Explanations in Help & Dialog boxes must be written clearly and unambiguously with enough information to be specific, by a person who writes in his native language (& very well).
5. Crash recovery if it does ocurr must be quick and as painless as possible (from CD/DVD &/or Backup HDs) w/adequate explanations.
I use Mac and Windows, and I want the same things from both OSs.
Mac wins it hands down right now for me! Internet problems almost do not exist, No registry, no confused 'Remove Application: can't find....', no config.sys, etal, etal, no BIOS update.
It is all about how easy is it to have your mind concentrate soley on the work at hand and the OS doesn't get in the way of productivity.
