It seems to me that by the time it ships, Longhorn will need 4 gigs of RAM.

I have been to professional studios. There are actually quite a few here in Miami and Fort Lauderdale. In fact quite a number of the current playlists for top 40 radio were recorded either here or in LA.
Guess what... they were all running OSX. You would be amazed at the number of TiBooks with OSX and ProTools and Reason in the professional music business. Except for France apparently.
