X11, Window Managers The new X Server developed under the sponsorship of freedesktop.org is aiming at replacing XFree86. Some code will be re-used but the core will be rewritten by Keith Packard and others. The new X server features full support for transparency, and has window-level image compositing among other things. Check out the screenshots (one more added, now there are four shots).

"Windows Terminal Server can re-connect to running sessions from any place and is blazingly fast on a ADSL line. VNC is not the answer, it may be the question."

VNC is also fast on a ADSL line. 16 kB/sec worked fine with 2 connections ;) i remember even using WTS and VNC on a dialup.

Oh, and the Nokia Communicator 9120 does NOT have WTS (you guess why, cause it's closed source!@#$) while VNC exists for this GSM.

Ah, and there's ''rdesktop'' too.
