I find myself using a number of OSes daily but for the OSes I use most, I have some favorite third party applications that I can't live without. Here are my application lists for Windows, Unix/Linux, Mac OS X and BeOS; applications I always download and install after a clean OS installation. I only use linux, (even on my powerbook, although i used to be a beos junkie)...so here it goes
emacs (albiet standard on nearly every platform)
pgadmin3 for my postgresql work
anjuta
eclipse 2 & 3 with plugins
rythmbox
hping, fragroute, aide, hunt, opennms, etherape, and the rest of the packet crafting, analysis, vulnrability, etc.... which i use for the software i write at work.
