OSNews, Generic OSes I find myself using a number of OSes daily but for the OSes I use most, I have some favorite third party applications that I can't live without. Here are my application lists for Windows, Unix/Linux, Mac OS X and BeOS; applications I always download and install after a clean OS installation. Please tell us about your favorite third party apps you use on different OSes by using the provided comment section.

My 2 bits

I posted for such a list some time ago. Thanks. I use OpenVMS and Linux at work and Linux at home and no Windows anywhere.

- jEdit - couldn't live without it. It is even better than TPU on OpenVMS. Still, I miss TPU's learn mode.
- Konqueror - I do not understand the bashing it sometimes is getting. I find it remarkable.
- ddd - again a bullseye. I know it is based on gdb. I beats the OpenVMS debugger by far.
- KMail - It's ok for what I need.
- K3b - But I have not gotten it to work on kernel 2.6. I think because scsi-ide is broken and K3b cannot burn using cd-ide yet.
- TextMaker - I haven't worked much with it yet. But it is lighter than Oo Writer and appears to suffice for the MS Word writing that I need.
- Digikam - Another one that looks very promising and but that I have not spent any time on yet.
