OSNews, Generic OSes I find myself using a number of OSes daily but for the OSes I use most, I have some favorite third party applications that I can't live without. Here are my application lists for Windows, Unix/Linux, Mac OS X and BeOS; applications I always download and install after a clean OS installation. Please tell us about your favorite third party apps you use on different OSes by using the provided comment section.

I'm surprise there aren't many programs that are must haves for any OS. This is a bad sign for any shrink-wrap company left.

Linux comes with most of the applications mentioned and Microsoft is including alot of stuff starting with XP.

Anyways, my list really short.

Microsoft (windows xp pro)
1) Visual Studio 6
2) DotNet SDK
3) Java SDK
4) Eiffel Studio
5) Eclipse
6) Vim
7) Open Office
8) Mozilla
9) Acrobat reader
10) Flash
11) apache
12) Cgywin
13) VLC + WinDVD
14) Python
15) Mysql
16) PHP
17) Perl
18) Nero
17) Real one
18) Quicktime
17) Antivirus
19) Firewall

Linux (slackware)
1) Smart Eiffel
2) Eclipse
3) Flash
4) Xine, VLC + codec
WOW, everything else comes with the distro. No wonder it takes me less time to customize linux.
