I find myself using a number of OSes daily but for the OSes I use most, I have some favorite third party applications that I can't live without. Here are my application lists for Windows, Unix/Linux, Mac OS X and BeOS; applications I always download and install after a clean OS installation. Though i guessed a bit, these programs are to my knowledge shareware. I take it you are one of the ~30 people who actually paid for mIRC? Shareware essentially means you'll have to pay for it after having used it for a certain defined period.
Wether you have limited functionality akll the time, at the time after the period is over or full functionality does not differ anything to this license. Shareware is "try before you buy", after the period you either have to stop using it or pay for it.
Result is, a lot people are actually using ie. mIRC illegally.
