OSNews, Generic OSes I find myself using a number of OSes daily but for the OSes I use most, I have some favorite third party applications that I can't live without. Here are my application lists for Windows, Unix/Linux, Mac OS X and BeOS; applications I always download and install after a clean OS installation. Please tell us about your favorite third party apps you use on different OSes by using the provided comment section.

If you installed Dropline GNOME (http://www.dropline.net/gnome) you'd knock of Xine AND Flash. But anyway, eclipse is pretty easy to install and eiffel is a relatively obscure language so your point about Linux/BSD in general being complete is very true.

It's been a long time since I used windows and I believe that if I ever do some time in the future (very unlikely) that the list is likely to be at least as long as yours. I'm a Java DB developer also and things like MySQL, Apache, EMACS and NetBeans are absolute musts for me.
