When you look at the progress they've made - it makes you wonder, what miracales they could have achieved working on the same railroad. But lets see what kind of bridge SUSE/Novell is able to build (IMO the course of SUSE the last few years has been standadization ... that is the golden way).
It's good to see that I'm not the only one that thinks this way....if only Gnome and KDE had joined forces a long time ago just think what we could have now. You would still have the fluxboxes, ICEwm, XFCE, etc..but developers(especially ISVs) would have one target. I think we would have something that would be just as good as Mac OSX.
Novell and IBM are the keys here. At some point in time they're going to have give concrete details on what their long-term plans for the linux desktop are. I hear that IBM has had a super-secret distro in their labs for quite some time now.
