Linux I've been trying Linux on and off for a couple of years. My first experience with Linux was with a version of Slackware (can't remember) way back in 1996. At the time the installation was so daunting that I gave up all together. For a little background I consider myself a proficient computer user.

Knoppix: the ultimate rescue CD? not for me :(
by testerus on Wed 12th May 2004 21:52 UTC

There is one huge problem I have with Knoppix. No, it boots fine and most hardware is detected, but my linux on harddisk uses an unicode locale and thus my filenames are UTF-8 encoded. Knoppix (and any other live CD I've tried) is unable to mount the partitions with correct filenames or boot in UTF-8 mode.
