General Development My physics teacher likes to say that physics like to make problems they face look like ones that they know how to solve. A simple harmonic oscillation was one he frequently used in class, as is presumably the case in physics in general.

And the point is...?
by Jared White on Tue 18th May 2004 07:10 UTC

I'm not sure I understood the point the writer of this article was trying to make. Perhaps his English wasn't quite up to snuff to get the point across properly.

I guess the point I have is that I don't believe any programming style/environment/methodology/etc. has "failed" because if some people can use it to get work done properly, then it works. Some people like good ol' procedural C. If they can write a good app in that language, more power to them. Some people swear by Objective-C and Cocoa programming on OS X. If they can write a good app in that environment, more power to them. Some people are so-called "script kiddies" hacking away at PHP. If they can write the Internet's next killer app from their upstairs bedroom, more power to them.

I say find the tools that suit you, learn how to use them effectively, and go for it. Who are we to sneer at anybody?
