i agree with you...MySQL should just spend their time tweaking SAPdb and making it protocol-compatible with vanilla MySQL rather than reinventing the wheel just to implement its features in MySQL 5. when they announced that they were taking over sapdb.org before, i thought that it was their way of getting ready for version 5. apparently MaxDB (formerly SAPdb) and the vanilla MySQL will stay apart for quite a few more years.
what attracted me to MySQL was how quickly it developed...but to be honest i'm getting impatient waiting all these years for the features they have promised. i have since moved on to postgresql and firebird for open source DBs.
