Let me make it clear. I'm not a fan of Apple. I think that their products are overhyped, overpriced and underperforming. If you're looking for a fair unbiased opinion, you're looking in the wrong place. You've been warned. So, I was at Steve Jobs' 2004 WWDC keynote yesterday, attempting to take pictures for OSNews (an amazingly hard task, by the way, which really explained why people pay big bucks for big lenses equipped with image stabilizers). Transition from Windows 98 to Windows XP not so big? Hmmm, I think that features like SMP, NTFS or remote desktop connection are very big - I saw a huge difference when I upgraded my PC. For what I do those are very major features. The transition from DOS/Win 3.11 to Win95 was in my own opinion much smaller than that.
Like I said, only backend improvements (kernel), and some little additions. Very small transition for the consumer. I saw very little differences, but did notice the better stability and a few new apps. Other than that, nothing major. Maybe it was bigger for the developer, but for the consumer it was a small upgrade.
