Let's face it, the most important, truly alternative, hobby operating systems that are somewhat usable today are three: MenuetOS, SkyOS and AtheOS. Ok, I understand. I don't think that Gnome is mixing it up though, because there is only the global application menu and the global action menu at the desktop menu while every application specific (non global) menu is at the application's window. This makes the most sense to me.
