QNX I think that everyone reading OSNews will have heard at least something about QNX. You can regard this article as an introduction, but also as a review, and as a "Is-QNX-Ready-For-The-Desktop? article". To start off, I put together a short explanation of the merits of using a microkernel. Let me start off by saying that QNX Software Systems (QSS) does not aim towards the desktop with their Neutrino RTOS.

Think a little bit about BeOS, Amiga before criticising someone refusing to use a "minor" closed source OS.

For these non-mainstream closed OS, there is a real risk that the parent company will close, loose interest, etc.. And that the OS goes into unmaintained mode, whatever the interest of the users..

With open-source OS, users have at last the additionnal possibility of becoming developpers or paying other to become developpers if they need some feature that don't exist..
