FreeBSD Unfortunately, the cute FreeBSD daemon is sometimes treated with misunderstanding in the religious and cultural context. That's why The FreeBSD Project is announcing a public competition for the new logo design. You can find the rules of the competition in this document. Update: There is now a petition to keep Beastie, however FreeBSD's own Robert Watson emailed us to inform us that they are "seeking a new logo, but not a new mascot", so that petition is really reduntant. As sad as it sounds I first installed FreeBSD because of the logo and I am sure there are many people influenced by the "positive" image it projects unto the project.
They are offering 500$ to destroy a classic piece of open source marketing.... Even 10.000$ would sound low.

*sigh* it's so sad. Does anyone have a testimony from someone who is actually in favour of a replacement ?
maybe a "DaemonBSD" fork/copy is in order.
