Linux I've only been using GNU/Linux since 2001, so I won't say that I'm by any means an expert yet, as most of those that are reading this, probably have been using Linux much longer than I have. However, I still have high hopes for the Linux scene. The purpose of this article is to voice my personal opinion on what I feel is keeping GNU/Linux from taking over the mainstream operating system market. My intentions aren't to "badtalk" the open source kernel+apps, but rather give constructive criticsm on what I personally feel it could be done better.

"Actually, Windows has a lot to learn from Linux in this regard."

Yeah, what with the rapidly expanding user base of GNU/Linux, I'm sure Windows has loads to learn from GNU/Linux.

Dream on.

Oh, you know, cause the market leader always does everything right and there isn't a single advantage to any alternative platform, right?

Linux is R&D to those guys right now. Nothing more or less. Get your head out of your asses

Linux R&D to Novell? I suppose Netware is the platform of the future and Novell will always be able to support itself on Netware,r ight? I'd say Linux is more like Novell hoping to keep its head above water after another 10 years.

Well, IBM has begun to put AIX on the backburner (considering Linux has a higher marketshare right now), has ported all of their software to Linux, offers full support for Linux on their servers, has formed strong partnerships with both Novell and Red Hat, and is making tons of money supporting Linux.....but yes, you're absolutely right, Linux is simply R&D and IBM is making absolutely no money off of it.
