I have moved to Arch Linux. It's a lot like Slackware in most ways, but more bleeding edge. It's not as stable as Slackware though. If this gets worked out as well some speed up of pacman, Arch would be a better solution to the kinda-neglected Slackware today. It's only so much that a single person can do supporting and maintaining all these packages and their increasing complexity.
