When I read the article on Slashdot & OSNews that Linare was putting out a sub-$500 notebook, I immediately jumped on the deal. I purchased a laptop directly from Linare in early February. Their site stated that I would receive the laptop in 2-4 weeks. I waited in anticipation.

Just because something is legal, doesn't mean it's just. Apple, Google, Microsoft, and many more - these companies might not be breaking any laws, but it's obvious to anyone that what they are doing is scummy.

The Verge pointed me to a blog post by Leap Motion - which reveals how their Kinect-like motion control works with Windows 8. "From the second you plug in your Leap Motion Controller, you'll be able to browse the web and interact with your computer just by moving your hands and fingers in the air. With Leap Motion technology and Windows, you can do everything that's possible with multi-touch inputs - without actually touching anything. This also means that existing applications in Windows 7 and 8 will respond to your natural hand and finger movements. Soon, we'll show you how Leap Motion will work with Mac OS X." Quite cool.

PocketNow interviews Marc Dillon, and there's an interesting note about why Jolla is keeping the display properties under wraps: "We're leaving some of those details out because we do understand that there are a lot of really big players in the market and they tend to take certain components in the market and dominate them. We created the ability to actually be able to run Sailfish on multiple hardware displays and be able to swap components, so this is part of the demand and supply planning phase. We are committed to this industrial design which is a 4.5-inch display, an 8 megapixel camera on the back and a front-facing camera at the front, and the exact specs of the display we'll provide when we're close to delivery." Something you rarely hear anything about.

I too am very interested in these notebooks (I would have chosen the 250 for mem & DVD) No one should have to go through what you did, and I wonder how many else did. I also wonder if it is their SOP or some other issue(s).
The lack of any info ( & support/contact info) about the machines seemed rather questionable.
It was common in the '70s & '80s for tele or mail order tech companies, electronic/stereo/photo to sell without actual inventory and float loans, Drop ship, etc. Whether that is an issue here I dunno, but plausible.
Or is it a money, tech or supply difficulty that could be influenced by other sources??
Because now that you finally have it you seem to indicate that it supports Linux well and is good hardware for the price... Is that correct?? Does the modem work? how about wireless? Did you try any other distros liveCDs or installed? (other than FC3) Did you find the mem? Any other issues with the hardware?

that indicates that the company has 30 empolyees mostly in India (and the name of the CEO seems Indian as well) Not that, that is all that important except for the poor service and support.
Maybe they will fix the problem or get their act together... Maybe not.. who knows? Certainly bad business.
I would prefer to buy any Notebook without Windows and this one appeared very attractive... But the wait & poor CS makes it questionable.
I wonder what the real reason is......?
