Red Hat I know what you're thinking, but don't worry. This article isn't 'Yet Another Red Hat 8.0 Review'. This article is primarily about using Red Hat 8.0 if you happen to be a newbie, but it's also about using Red Hat 8.0 if you happen to be a KDE user. Why? I happen to be a KDE user, so it makes sense I'd focus more on what I know the most about. Plus, I still remember the frustration of staring with something akin to terror at a blank command line with lots of ideas about what I'd like to do and very little knowledge of how to do it.

After doing some reading at http://www.freshrpms.net it came to my attention that there are no "fine folks at FreshRPMS" -- there is one lone guy who apparently works very, very hard to provide this resource for the community (only to have people like me come along and not give him credit!).

My article refers to FreshRPMS in a general sense as if it were a group effort, which detracts from the hard work of the person truly responsible. Find out for yourself at

http://freshrpms.net/about.html

Be sure to drop Matthias a line and let him know how useful the custom packages and apt repository are ... his hard work adds FAR more usability to Red Hat (and not just 8.0) than all the sections of my article put together, and I feel like a jerk for not pointing that out clearly in the body of the article. In my defense, I was focusing on getting the tech stuff right and just *assumed* FreshRPMS was a group or community effort (since the work required to maintain it must be enormous). But we all know exactly what assumptions are good for, don't we?

Again, my apolgies for not giving credit where it was due.
