OSNews, Generic OSes Yeah, I might be just re-inventing the wheel here, who knows? But I had this (original? I doubt it) idea a few months ago and I was meant to write about it for some time now. So, my idea is about creating a new operating system that is like none of the current ones. It would be so different, that porting applications from other "traditional" systems wouldn't be possible. But the gains would be much more important of what we would lose by implementing a brand new new system.

Nico is right...

It sounds a LOT like TALIGENT. I read their book on the architecture and was waiting for something to be delivered and then they decided to change to a framework instead of an operating system and it kinda went down hill from there.

I think throwing something new into the fray would only detract from what is out there and make things more confusing.

I love LINUX, but until they hammer out a few usability functions, I keep going back to Windows (for games, for specialized apps that only run on Windows like DameWare Utilities for NT/2000 networks, etc.)

And yes, I have heard and use VMWARE, but booting up a VM session of Windows can be time consuming - so I use Linux on my home machine and Windows on my PC. (I would still be using OS/2 if it was brought up to date or new versions released - darn IBM).

Keep hope alive!
