OSNews, Generic OSes Yeah, I might be just re-inventing the wheel here, who knows? But I had this (original? I doubt it) idea a few months ago and I was meant to write about it for some time now. So, my idea is about creating a new operating system that is like none of the current ones. It would be so different, that porting applications from other "traditional" systems wouldn't be possible. But the gains would be much more important of what we would lose by implementing a brand new new system.

Jef Raskin's revenge?
by WattsM on Wed 6th Nov 2002 04:33 UTC

...this concept is actually very close to the "back end" that would be needed behind the "front end" that Jef Raskin describes in The Humane Interface. It's nice to see that OS News readers are being consistent in disliking both sides. ;)

Those of you with more open minds might want to read Raskin's book. I've seen an awful lot of bashing of it from who clearly haven't read it in depth (or at all). I don't agree with it all but it's all thought-provoking, as long as you're willing to actually think about the ideas rather than dismiss them on the "that's too different, if it ain't broke don't fix it" grounds most tech-heads seem inclined toward.
