Linux Why do it? I am asked this question more often than I expected, even by existing Linux users who I expected to know as well as I the reasons for building a next-generation desktop Linux for the home user. So here are some of my reasons for thinking that we must spend the effort to create a better desktop on Linux than any existing version now has. Agreed to a certain degree. Lets look on the other side. You spend $NZ3000 on a computer, wouldn't it be prudent to ensure that you get the most out of your computer by learning and utilising all its capabilities?

For me, why spend money on something when all you are going to use it for is as a glorified type writer and internet access box, you might as well buy a type writer and get a Internet Terminal running QNX or some other embedded OS.
