Celebrating the 6th anniversary of MorphOS, version 1.4.4 is now available. This is the last bugfix update before the next full release, and solves many bugs and problems with the previous releases. The update is currently only available to users who have registered themselves. Fixes in the 1.4.4 release include support for large harddrives, ability to read DVDs in their entirety, important bug fixes to SFS, audio, 68k emulation, network card drivers and many other things. From investigations of several Amiga news sites it came to my attention that not everyone who is a registered Pegasos owner and MorphOS user received information where to download the updates from. Any solutions for that or can we expect that now that GENESI isn’t involved anymore that only those receive updates whom developers want to give them ?
It is stated that unregistered users will have to wait some days until
the new registration process is ready.
Then lots of users neglected to subscribe to the [info] mailing list
where all anouncements from the MorphOS-Team are made (although it’s
true there is very few announcement). Those users are to blame. Others
users got instructions to download the upgrade.
So other people only have to wait some days, and no, “not only those
receive updates whom developers want to give them” !
Every registered MorphOS user has got a mail, not only “those who developers like”. If you had read the actual announcement before going here and post clueless insinuations you would have known that the registration page is temporarily down so new registrations can’t be done until it’s up again (in a week or so). A new announcement will come when the registration page is online.
And BTW, Genesi is not as “uninvolved” as you seem to think. 🙂

I am registered user to Pegasos and MorphOS for over 1.5 years as well as I am subscribed to the info mailinglist (till recently where Zapek put it and the beta list down). It’s not even one week ago where I wrote some replies to the MOS list.
Falcon-1 Would you please provide your eMail address so I can contact you ? Would make more sense than replying here. Otherwise you need a good explaination why registered users end up as unregistered from one moment to another.
The discussion mailinglist is not the same as the info mailinglist. I
was for example on the discussion mailing list, but not on the info
one, until a few days ago. Also, it’s quite possible that your mail
has been bouncing due to some temporary problem, or so.
So I think it’s better to have a little patience, than to start
complaining anonymously on various web forums.
After the fighting about MorphOS, I was afraid that development of this OS was going to stop.
Not being a MorphOS user, I have no idea about how welcome this upgrade is, and how much of a difference it makes.
But, it’s good to see progress…

Just wish it wasn’t $795US for a Motherboard and OS.
I bought my Mac Mini for MUCH less than that, and the Mini was a complete system, and 50% more processor speed…
I don’t know why they can’t get a Peg II & Processor down to $250, and then sell the OS for another $99
All sorts of small companies offer Intel/AMD Logic boards for $69, and I can’t imagine they make more of those (individually) than a run of Peg II boards.
Plus at that lower price, many existing Peg owners might want an upgrade or a second system.
Unless I win the lottery or come across a Peg I or Peg II system in my price-range, I’ll be an admirerer from afar…

That web page is the work of one disgruntled former developer. Whether he was properly paid or not depends on what the details of his arrangement with Genesi were. AFAIK, there hasn’t been any public posting describing that arrangement. It can probably be said that Genesi expected income that never materialized, and that developer continued to work on the assumption that it would. What hasn’t been contested, I think, is that Genesi is paid up on the versions of MorphOS that it has licensed up til now. The pay dispute apparently involved work for the so-far unreleased

It seems the pay dispute concerned work on the so-far unreleased 1.5 version. Now Ambient, the MorphOS gui at the center of that dispute, has been open-sourced by its author since he left the MorphOS team. Hopefully, more clear understandings have been reached between the MorphOS team and Genesi.
