no IrDA?

I *think* that the TX does not have any IrDA either. If true, this is the first higher-end Palm PDA with no IrDA in it. And that's a shame, because many people have IrDA-only phones and they could use their PDAs to connect to GPRS. Other than that, this TX, if it also had a voice recorder, it would be a KILLER PalmOS PDA today!

As for the Z22, it looks very cute, but the lack of SD slot, headphone jack and IrDA kills it for me.

Yes, T|X includes IrDA, the PalmInfoCenter Review says so.

Sux it doesn't have FVGA and SD, CF would be nice, too.

And I want the option to flash my own Linux distro on it.

/shrugs/ Maybe one day Palm will make a product for me and my money. They're getting closer..

The biggest issue

Eugenia seems to be upset with the lack of voice recording, I'm more concern about not having a proper os yet.

Not to mention that lately palm's QA department efficiency leaves a lot to desire.

No more palm for me

I'm sure Garnett is a brilliant OS. However, knowing there won't be any version 6 has dropped my hopes for PalmOS / Palm.

(Interesting that they bought BeOS at R5.03 and then didn't do anything and now same happens with PalmOS at R5.4).

Besides the lack of new operating systems, obviously the devices are overpriced for what you get this time =(

Palm - bah

I already have an tungsten c. I'm done with pda's for quite a while. There hasn't been an update to it's os in ages. I don't like that they dropped it like that. Plus, the thing locks up with a memmgr.c error in line 1654 all the time. The solution according to palm was to delete all the apps that I installed. What the heck good is a palm if I can't load my own apps? This was my second palm (after the palm Vx).

Good Combination

It looks to me like it has a lot of features for $299. I look at this as the value geek model. I, too, am sad about the state of the Palm OS. I am a Palm Developer! I think I will have to switch to another platform, and I really hate to switch to CE/PocketPC/Embedded Windoze. Maybe micro-java is the way to go!

assuming they even have one (no joke). More and more, these types of things are being "farmed" out to QA outfits who know little to nothing regarding testing their devices (let alone proper QA in general)....

Well, if you switched to the Pocket PCs.. you can always install handhelds.org on it ... The Linux for PPC . Also, I just bought the TX, it's a pretty good PDA, web pages on Blazer render better then IE does ... I like and I hate palm... I see no point in things such as the "Palm Store" because all they sell is palm crap... If I want crap for my Palm, I goto a Palm BOOTH or Franklin Covey ... I wonder if I'll be able to upgrade to the newer Palm OS when it comes out =/... It'll be like OS X. `Cept this time it's Palm OS + New Palm OS Interface + Linux instead of Mac OS 9 + New OS X Interface + FreeBSD. Haha, OS X isn't all that bad, but I still prefer me OBSD, FBSD, and Linux boxes. Anyway.. Why stop programming for Palm? Go Open Source! (if you don't already).
