Price?

What is the price on this? When I first followed the link to geeks.com it listed it as $129, when I reloaded the page it had jumped to $199. And the review says it is "selling at the low price of $150".

If you click the link on the geeks.com mainpage, it says $149 - if you use the "secret savings code" of "GEEKPLUS" - see here:

http://www.geeks.com/pix/2006/GEEKPLUSlanding.html?cpc=HPM

otherwise it's currently listed at $199...

I didn't see the $129 number - maybe that's a "strip model" ?

Yes, they were having problems with their system. The normal price is $199. Then they put the item on "Special of the day" and it showed on the front page as $149 but when you clicked through to the product page it was $130. I alerted them about this and they changed the price. While the "special" is set to $149, it's safe to assume that most people will end up in this page in the next few hours or days will find the item at the normal price at $199.

screen resolution

If the screen is truly 320x240 - they should probably change their advertisements to specify this. It clearly states on that link above and in the product specs that it has a "Huge 3.5-inch LCD display with 640 x 480 resolution"

This is a fairly significant overstatement IMO.

This is what SupportPlus writes in their product pages and flyers too, but it's obviously a QVGA one. Geeks and any other retailer simply use the information the OEM gave them.

I can even count pixels on the screen, while on my x50v VGA PDA (3.7") it is smooth. Sorell doesn't say anything, they just say: 3.5" screen. This is obviously a QVGA screen, it's just like all my other QVGA PDAs at the same screen size. Same kind of screen in terms of density.

using vbr mp3 in avi is not a good idea as it will normally out of synch. Storing that kind of format is a kind of hack, and this pmp doesn't seem to support it.Browser: Opera/8.01 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/2.0.4509/1372; en; U; ssr)

Are you really sure?

http://osnews.com/img/16160/sv1.jpg looks like it isn't doable in 320x240 at all.

Could you post a sharp picture of the whole screen please?

RE[3]: screen resolution

Yes, I am sure. The PMP has a 3.5" QVGA screen, which is EXACTLY the same as the other QVGA PDA PocketPC screens in terms of density (I have 3 PPCs here to compare).

For comparison I have taken close shots of my x50v PDA which has a real VGA screen (3.7"), and the PMP's 3.5":
http://osnews.com/img/16160/comp1.jpg
http://osnews.com/img/16160/comp2.jpg

I have also uploaded some even closer shots of the two screens, notice how you can see the PMP's pixels very easily while on the real VGA screen you can't:
http://osnews.com/img/16160/comp3.jpg
http://osnews.com/img/16160/comp4.jpg

And yes, a 320x240 screen is more than enough to draw these icons. Do not compare to a cellphone's QVGA screen where the icons and fonts are in reality huge because these come with just 2.2" screens and not on 3.5" ones. If you have ever used a PocketPC which usually come in 3.5" QVGA screens you would be amazed how much information you can put in a single screen compared to a QVGA cellphone. This is the reason why I use a PocketPC as a cellphone: stores more info at the same resolution as other phones because the screen is bigger so designers can afford to make fonts and icons smaller.

Update: I actually took comp1.jpg and counted the pixels on the screen. It *is* 320pix wide. This is a QVGA screen, there is no doubt about it. I have a beef with SupportPlus selling it to retailers as VGA.Edited 2006-10-14 22:04

LISTEN!!!

Ive owned this little miracle which I purchased from geeks for about 6 months now, and let me tell you DONT second guess it. ITS GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!BUY it!!!
It does everything it says and I bought it before they put the 50.00$$ off deal. I payed 200 and its worth every penny.

Sound :great
Video :great AS long as you convert files with its software or take torrents made by "Axxo" (his stuff works perfect with out converting software.)
FM tuner: great
Camara: great
VideoRecorder: great
VoiceRecorder: great
the Damm thing .... just works, I love this thing.

Now for the bad theres NO support from the manf. So forget it, although my product has worked as promised it does have its little problems like:
1} The sync problem with SOME video mentioned: By edogawaconan
2}Sluggish to respond to commands and certian indepth info on the System..

but, I took chance and updated the firmware not from the manf.
But from SORELL sv10 V2.26

I found a website:
http://laser.k3pgp.org/bikecam.htm

with all instructions it took less than 1 min.
*********NOTE*******: After placeing the bin file in Data dir. a message will appear saying update dont power off.
!!!DONT TOUCH IT leave it alone!!! it will turn itself off.
And when you restart the device it will work BETTER WITH ALL problems mentioned above FIXED! ive noticed it reacts faster to selections in menu and also has a TEXT reader option now . Also had more info on the system itself mem H.d.d ect.

I have the EXACT same MODEL being sold at geeks.com at moment and mentioned at this website with the firmware update. Supportplus SP-PMP51C .
I Cant promise it will work for you {it should if done right}. But IT worked for me 100%
I Hope this helps ANY one interested in buying one and those who have one already....Goodluck Edited 2006-10-21 17:20
