The Video Clip...

The video 3gp video clip works for me:

I used Media Player Classic with ffdshow. Works fine.

The phone itself seems kind of sucks, the design seems nice, but the features are kind of disappointing. Style over subustance, IMHO.

Anyone know of Symbian OS based smartphone with a good looking design? Think of Nokia E series but with a slicker design. Being in the $300 - $400 range would also help.

>I used Media Player Classic with ffdshow. Works fine.

It does not work for me. I have ffdshow and WMP11 and it doesn't work here. However, ffdshow is not as standard as Real and as QuickTime is for 3GP on people's computers (or even as popular as VLC is lately). And the LG video just doesn't work on any of these apps, while ALL the other phones I have reviewed the last 2 years work just fine. Apple has made sure that 3GP and MPEG4 works well on QuickTime, so I am inclined to believe based on these facts that the bug is LG's. Maybe ffdshow go around LG's bugs in order to be able to be compatible with them.

ALL the Symbian S60 3.0 devices are here, take your pick:
http://my-symbian.com/s60v3/compare.php (only devices missing from that list are the N75/N95 which are not out yet)

and here is the Symbian UIQ 3.0 devices:

I downloaded MP Classic too btw, and fddshow is installed and enabled in the external filters. The video just doesn't work here.

Hmm, maybe its because of Quicktime/Real alternative? But if Quicktime alternative works, so should the real version of Quciktime.

Other than a matroska splitter and an Xvid codec I don't think I have any 3rd party codecs installed. This is kind of wierd.

The comparison chart is quite useful, thanks for that.

At least the ones that verizon wireless carries. Not the worst phone in the world, but if you care about reliability, you'd bet an 8300 instead.... which largely has the same features.

Man..... How I do miss the startac. :-(

I seems to play in the Nokia Multimedia Player (comes with Nokia PCSuite) but as you already mentioned it doesn't play in anything else. How long is the clip supposed to be? It says 11:26 in NMP but only plays for about 6 seconds.

"But probably it would the average housewife who wants to show off to her also desperate housewife girlfriend."

I'm going to take a wild shot here and guess that the guy who wrote this isn't married.

Or if he is, that he won't be for very _long_.

> that the guy who wrote this isn't married.

You can find if this is true by clicking at the name of the article's author. ;-)

You will find that he is a she, and that she is happily married. More over, what it's written is what it is. No power user in his right mind would buy that phone.Edited 2006-12-07 07:06
