Right...so the UK isn't considered a part of "Europe?"

Someone please explain to this poor American (US) why the UK is rarely considered a part of "Europe?" The UK likes to put itself apart from Europe, and companies alo usually treat the UK differently from the rest of Europe. Hence, they get mentioned separately. People probably just drop the "main land europe" section

I wonder how much of it is also due to the fact that we speak English, and the rest of europe does not, and as such inreasing familiarity. It's a bit like how the French always want to go their own way. The Brits are a lot like that, except not French.
