You forget:
0) AMD K8L is still vapourware (AMD maybe late on this one)
1) AMD 4×4 was a dud-generate too much heat with little performance to show.
2) See 0) and people really don’t care if how quad core is implemented- it just has to perform as promised!
3) AMD/ATI integration or so called Fusion chip is a long way off. Don’t expect to see anything until late 2008 0r early 2009. Alot could happen in two or three years.
4) AMD 690 chipset is delayed again.
5) ATI has a poor history of execution like AMD.
AMD promised alot maybe too much-alot not enough-promise to keep.
So this Java XML Processor mentioned in the article.
Would that mean the end of the JVM? Will it be easier to use with Linux? (speculatively speaking)
I know Java isn’t that hard to install (quite easy with the Universe repos)… but these are Questions that must be asked.
Is Web2.0 coming to hardware? Will we grt a JavaSCRIPT processor with that too that will do this silly AJAX stuff?
I might be wrong, but I think it will be the same as with today’s GPUs – they didn’t eliminate the need for OpenGL or DirectX they just implement certain functionality in hardware which makes exection significantly faster.

It makes you wonder just how much technology they have been sharing with IBM.
You can’t say AMD lacks vision.Instead of bluntly going head to head with Intel into the n-core race they put their bets on different technology.Wether rightfully so remains to be seen.
