But Military, VMEbus

I've been wondering what would become of Yellow Dog Linux if there were no PPC Macs being sold.

But unfortunately, "military" and "VMEbus" are two words that translate to "too expensive for most."

It is nice to see PPC and other platforms remain on the desktop. Having multiple architectures provides flexibility and forces the writing of good code. I hope that TerraSoft is successful with this and also with working with Sony and Genesi and other players in the PPC realm keeping the desktop and server markets as diverse and competitive as possible.

It'd be appropriate. Themis calls itself "The leader in high-performance computing for high-density, hostile operating environments" ;-).

Amen I say to that, no offence intended.

The shrinking of the hardware market is not all golden. Unlikely as it is, if one of the two current big processor players where to go under, we would be faced with another virtual monopoly. No good would come of this and that is a fact.

P.S. I really like the PPC platform if just for the fact that not all the hardware I own is another x86 derivative.

Consuption

What about power consuption?

*Power - Single-CPU configuration:
12V power: 10.0A typical
5V power: 2.5A typical
* Power - Dual-CPU configuration (with PMC slot on CPU1 board)
12V power: 14.0A typical
5V power: 3.5A typical

That's sthg between 12.5W (that's OK!) - 168W (that's NOT ok) for the Single CPU board

(edit) crappy utf8 characters.. :-(Edited 2007-01-30 12:28
