I saw in a screenshot somewhere that SP1 includes a new version of their gnome-main-menu (aka slab) app. Would someone know where to get a package of it for Ubuntu Feisty?
Did they get permission from MS to release a service pack?

afaik, PARA-virtualized means non-VT/Pacifica platforms. you can only run un-modified guests FULLY-virtualized on VT-enabled platforms (correct me if im wrong). so what exactly does the article mean?
If you read that quote again, you will notice it said:
“paravirtualized network and block device drivers”
In other words, it’s making fake network card and storage drivers for Windows to talk to, like VMWare and friends already do. But, the OS is running using Pacifica/VT.
While I don’t necessarily agree with or condone Novell’s sordid affair with Microsoft, I do respect their Linux products. Few will argue that SLED/SLES 10 is not a powerhouse of the Linux community. It is efforts like this that will legitimize Linux for the masses. OpenSUSE is clearly a fertile test bed and it’s good to see the fruits of the community’s labors winding up in SLED 10. This new service pack will add a raft of new features (I wonder if one of them will be AIGLX as an option instead of XGL.) But if the net result of working with Microsoft is WMA/WMV compatibility and a load of other stuff, isn’t that better than customers never moving to Linux because the lack of compatibility in that area?
Once you’ve got them on Linux, then you can wean then off the Microsoft technology slowly – its like a drug addict giving up their habit.
Thanks for the link to that video, great to see it in action. I’ve gotten very used to the current menu and it does look like it will be just as easy on the new one. The dedicated Shutdown button makes sense as well!
I’d like the ability to turn off the “Recent” sections of the menu. I like it for Documents but not for Applications.
We’ll see how it is when it gets here.

I have been a Red Hat user since 99 and I think SuSE from what reports have been written on SLED is one slick desktop package. Microsoft had to do something with Linux I know a lot of people instantly state they turned on the community but I actually do not see it that way. The customers want both Windows/Linux in their business/datacenters so it really is a win for the Linux desktop movement. Who knows maybe MS knows they cannot hold the desktop forever and see the Linux desktop as the next winner as in market share.
I hope SuSE really pushes SLED hard they need to let the end user see the difference and want the change. They will drive the market and what operating system is being used not just the vendor. Kudos to SuSE for such slick OS!
Even more than SLE SP1, I’m looking forward to Open Enterprise Server 2. If it lives up to its billing, this will be the bridge between NetWare and Linux in my orgranization outside of webserver duties.
