...with 45 nanometer manufacturing, and 32 nanometer planned for 2009. Man, these guys don't mess around.

I hope AMD starts caching up. Barcelona is supposed to be out soon but man, are they lagging. At least AMD have a decent memory controller architecture.

Does anybody have any news on if/when Intel plans on integrating memory controllers on die?

Thanks. That was a very interesting and informative read. It also answered my question very well.

I always wondered why Intel was still sticking with the front side bus and this article explains that very nicely.

I'm really looking forward to the family of CSI implementations and what kind of impact it will have on throughput. Guess I'll have to wait a few years more before seeing an implementation for the desktop.

"While Intel's platform engineers devised more and more creative ways to improve multiprocessor performance using the front-side bus, a highly scalable next generation interconnect was being jointly designed by engineers from teams across Intel and some of the former Alpha designers acquired from Compaq."

...I might add that those alpha engineers were acquired from DEC.

It's a serious matter, how to transition to different technologies like that, when everyone is mired in FSB technology.

I doubt Apple will start making 4-socket Macs since they'd be very expensive and few customers would benefit from them.
