Just release the damn code for the OS, so that some people can keep their platform of choice. The business model of what passes for the holder of the Amiga IP is not even in the same neighborhood of what AmigaOS does. So why do they hold to something, other than to add insult to injury? I suggested it as a stopgap solution for while most people were on AmigaOS 3.5/3.9 until AmigaOS 4.0 reached maturity so that people could write software that would work on both. IMHO, now that AmigaOS 4 is out, AmigaAnywhere has no further purpose for existence.

There are other VMs for handhelds, other APIs for cross-platform portability, and, most importantly, some of those portable APIs work on VMs for handhelds.

If you want portable code, forget AmigaAnywhere 2 and use SDL, OpenGL, and LLVM. That's what I'm going to do.

AmigaOS5/AmigaAnywhere is NOT the same thing as "the familiar AmigaOS", which means it also cannot include "the familiar Amiga GUI."

Or has someone seen a demo of the (vaporware) OS5 that I'm not aware of??

As for AmigaAnywhere, all I can say is--Java: been there, done that. This was of course true from the beginning on; it seems the AmigaAnywhere strategy has always just been a ploy for SOME source of income for Amiga, Inc. while being able to lead "Amiga enthusiasts" on that something real was being developed. I still don't understand why they won't do this. Can you even buy an AmigaOne anymore? Is there any hardware, that I can currently buy, that will run Amiga OS4?

Ok, so you tied your OS to the AmigaOne to protect Eyetech, right? How has this helped Amiga? How did the deal with Eyetech help Amiga? Why not port this to semi-standard hardware (how many PPC macs are in the wild?) and prevent your company from being screwed over by your hardware partner? (Not that Amiga was "screwed over" by Eyetech, a case could be made that it was the other way around, too.)

But, by porting to existing hardware that is cheap and commonly available, you might actually be able to SELL it to people. Now, the potential sales base for OS4 is 0, since you can't buy hardware to run it on, even if you want to. (And most people don't.)
