I see that yet another non-public release has been made. I used to be excited for this prospective operating system as it always seemed to do interesting things. But when will the final release, or at least a public release be made?

I didn't rate your comment but either way, you can't dislike or go against a product just because it is not free. However the fact that they don't even have a trial/demo edition is very bad. This is because I don't even know whether it will run on my PC. In the past, about a year and half -- two years ago, most of the Linux distros did not run on my PC because of my JMICRON IDE chipset.Edited 2008-08-05 22:03 UTC

no trail, no problem

while a lot of people are bothered or annoyed by the fact that there is no trial or demo I am honestly not that bothered by it. I did, however, pay for it the day beta one hit but thats not the point. the fact is that it isnt finished and things are changing constantly, at one point i heard kernel rewrite mentioned among other things. the fact is that even though it installs on the majority of systems its in a constant state of flux so while one beta might work for you another might not. having a VMware image to play with might be nice, but thats neither here nor their.

over all if you think its a worht while project, pay to play. I did and i dont regret it at all. Keep up the great work guys

Havent had the time to mess with it for quite some time, but I like seeing the progression of this OS. May have to log in and give it a whirl again.

For the love of cheesecake, could someone just for kicks actually try the latest release and write something constructive about the experience. I'm over reading negative comments about Sky OS's license, development model, beta state, etc.

As I said above, I don't know if it even works on my hardware so how can I buy something if I don't know if it works? Every software has a trial/demo period.

I don't mind paying for software that works and I've paid for Windows because it does work regardless what the OSS hard code fans say about it. In fact, I encourage Robert, I really do to continue selling his OS as everyone needs to make money BUT not giving away a public demo is a bit non-realistic I think. It's like getting a car without driving it first.

I know they said they will create a public demo Live CD on the final release and I am waiting for that moment. When they do release it, if it works and I like it I WILL buy it and even start developing third part apps for it if all comes into place!

Here is an example: I really like the look of eComStation. I like the fact that looks and works like Windows and I like the Windows-like classic look. They have a demo cd! Wohoo! Yay! I pop the demo and all I am getting is a blank screen! Won't even boot! So why would I spend the money for something that does not work on *my* hardware? I manage to see the loading screen in a virtual machine but then it just restarts. I put SkyOS in the same category. Even if they put a 10 seconds demo of the desktop, all I want to see whether I can at least boot the OS.Edited 2008-08-06 13:19 UTC

The entire purpose of the beta program is to get SkyOS to work on your computer if it doesn't work already.

If one just puts the demo cd in and it doesn't work I'm pretty sure most would just throw the CD away and thats it. But if one actually paid for the beta and it happens to be not able to boot on your PC for any reason one will definitely report this problem and we will soon get it to work.

Well I sent an email to the SkyOS people about dishing out $50 for beta testing while most software are free for beta testing and then they require some type of payment for the final product, and got a very lame reply saying "Your Welcome." My question didn't even get answered, I don't mind paying the money but to beta test it should be free especially when I don't even know if it will work my computers.

well most software aren't operating systems, especially very new ones. You have to be able to accept some risk and trust and appreciate what robert is trying to do here.

If I'm not mistaken, skyos probably doesn't want 5 zillion people using it so soon. Many would fill up the forums complaining about this and that and it would be hard to filter out all the noise.

Someone who would pay $ despite the risks is probably dedicated enough to be a solid beta tester.

Thanks for the reply Robert and I have to agree those are valid points. Now that I think about it, indeed it is what most people will do rather then seek for a solution.
