Using 4.2.1 from the openSUSE build service, and it works great. Most of the bugs I ran into are now gone and it also feels to load faster.

A big thank you to the KDE team!

Arch Linux actually released this already a week ago. The same happened with KDE 4.1.x releases aswell. Dunno where they got it.

Nice that the KDE team fixed that annoying KRunner bug, but a bad thing they didn't fix the problems with Konsole. I'm always a bit frustrated when right click menu dies for no reason and I have to close my SSH sessions and boot Konsole.

Have you noticed that your post is collapsed?
I'm running KDE 4.2.1 on Mandriva 2009.1 and it's just beautiful and stable.

Have any of you had problems getting 4.2 working and running from ports? I haven't figured out if it's a port issue with X7.4 or if it is K4.2. I am wondering if this maintenance release will fix whatever is going on once it gets ported over.

Distributors get KDE releases 1 week before official release. You can find that information somewhere in KDE site.

I know I shouldn't feed the troll, but...meh, I just woke up, my head aches and I don't feel too happy so what the heck; you know you can change the theme? O_o I hate the default theme myself too, it's downright ugly, but it shouldn't be that hard to download another one from kde-look or something. I don't think chimps would understand the concept but any human being over 12 years old should.

Oh come on, you know better than that.
When the Vista theme is ugly you just need to change it, when it's a Linux theme that's ugly it's a major disaster without salvation.

Well, if it matters so much for you, KDE 4.3 will introduce a new Plasma theme called 'Air'. It will be mostly white/gray. BTW the taskbar isn't black, its transparent, and the color thus depends on your background. Without compositing (and thus without transparency) it is blue.

To be strictly faithful to the type of commenter that kicked off this particular sub-thread ... if its a Vista theme it is necessarily beautiful, whereas if it is a Linux theme it is by definition ugly ... and indeed a major disaster without salvation to boot.
