When they first got big it seemed like you couldn't turn a corner without someone yelling "Ahhh Mike Skinner mate, poet of our generation!" And you'd just be in the pub and Dry Your Eyes would come on for the fiftieth time when you're trying to talk to your mates and it would really get on my wick.

I think a large part of being able to enjoy popular music comes down to whether or not you're okay with having the same song rammed down your ear holes morning, noon and night for a month. If you can take that and still walk away with an appreciation for the music then fair enough, but for me and other grumpy killjoys it just makes me fed up.

But yeah, back then, Dry Your Eyes was played far too often. My usual tactic in such a case is to shelf the album in question for a while, and return later on when the hype has passed. Works wonders. The first two I can understand, but why avoid magazines? I find that they're and excellent source for keeping up with new and interesting bands coming out. So what is your source for keeping up to date with what's happening in music. Can you recommend any websites that are good? I've looked but I've yet to find any that are of any sort quality, certainly nothing like some of the better magazines. Case in point being my next door neighbour before I moved up to where I live now; quintessential white trash and booming Lady Gaga in all hours of the morning.

2) I tend to listen to Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Grinderman, The Smiths/Morrissey, Muse with some odd bits and pieces from oldies artists. With that being said, my taste of music goes beyond rock and I tend to listen to Sun Ra, Miles Davis (Bitches Brew, 'pharaoh's dance' being my favourite), John Coltrane and so on. A good variety of music is what I prefer rather than just sticking to one genre. I will listen to the radio but I try to avoid the classic rock stations. They have ruined Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd and a few others for me.
