Mozilla explains that tabbed browsing made sense in the days when having ten websites open was "a lot", but now that 20+ websites open is becoming more and more common, tabbed browsing simply doesn't work as well any more. As such, the Mozilla team has set up a design challenge to come up with the next best thing.
Tabs worked well on slow machines on a thin Internet, where ten browser sessions were "many browser sessions". Today, 20+ parallel sessions are quite common; the browser is more of an operating system than a data display application; we use it to manage the web as a shared hard drive. However, if you have more than seven or eight tabs open they become pretty much useless.
You need to come up with a mockup, as well a video explaining how it all works. So, do any of you have any ideas? Let us know!
