Who Should We Interview?

In the past, OSNews’ interview volume was quite a bit higher than it has been lately. I had the pleasure of having lunch with Eugenia and her husband last week, and she mentioned that we haven’t done as many interviews, and that in the past they were always very popular. So I decided that I’m going to make it a personal priority to publish more interviews. I’d like to crowdsource the idea, and ask the OSNews community who they’d like to see us interview. Please let us know in the comments of this story who you’d like us to talk to, and what specific questions you’d like us to ask. Shoot for the moon. It’s not as hard to get an email-based interview as you might think. Obviously OS-world luminaries will always be a priority, but feel free to recommend people from the larger tech community, or even geek-oriented popular culture.

When we do an interview, we like to keep them to 10-12 questions or so, with some questions about the subject’s main area of expertise mixed in with a few off-the-wall ones that help us get a sense of that person’s personality. People who are in the process of launching some kind of new initiative are the ones that are the most eager to be interviewed, and obviously someone who’s working on a hot project is generally going to make for a more newsworthy interview. Keep in mind that as interesting as an interview with a well-known person might be, sometimes it’s even more interesting to talk to someone who’s virtually unknown but is a driving force behind a very interesting piece of technology, so I’d appreciate readers giving us the heads-up on people like that.

If you’d like to suggest an interview subject or recommend interview questions, here are a few good ways of doing it: put those suggestions into a comment on this story, contact us via email, or start a conversation with a suggestion.

If you’d like to take it one step further and conduct the interview yourself, please let us know. We can make the initial contact with the interviewee, and let you take it from there. If you’d like to do an audio (telephone) or video (video chat or in-person) interview, and your interviewee would be interested in that, then so would we.

Take a look at some of our past interviews for inspiration.
