I couldn't get version 8.x to work because my pc has mixed controllers and there was apparently a bug that prevented the product from booting in this scenario. I sure hope they fixed that in version 9. The main updates that are attractive for me are:

- The new ZFS v28: actually the last that SUN/oracle made available under the previous community model.
- The gcc (4.2.2-pre) and binutils(2.17.5o) updates: the last toolchain version available under the GPLv2.

There's also a new BSD-licensed ext2fs implementation, but a complete summary will only be available with the Release notes when 9.0 is released.
