I think its in Utahian’s blood to do what ever they think is the right thing even if it means selling out to corporate interests to do so.
They think they know what the right thing is to do, but don’t understand the subject. So there perfectly fine having a non biased party write all of it up, and if extra money changes hands well that’s just a confirmation that they did the right thing.
If that sounds messed up, you are very sane.
Its a different kind of corruption than the more typical Chicago school, where right and wrong are just dependant on dollar amounts.
Living in Utah, I agree fully. It really is messed up here. Orrin Hatch for example is a living example of Stupidity meets Corruption on a grand scale. They don’t fully understand the whole separation from Church and State here, so needless to say if some sort of issue comes up that is “oh, those evil copyright violators! They must be stopped!” while at the same time their daughters/sons are saying “Hey dad, I got this cool new movie from a friend of mine on DVD-R!” Then they are like “oh, cool, let’s watch it!”
Yes, I actually know some (not so normal) people that are like that.

Probably Mark Shurtleff doesn’t understand a dime about anything IT related, and is just delighted by the prospect of his new powers if SOPA and PIPA get approved.
Power for the sake of power, he wants more. It’s never enough.

Not at all. In the US much legislation is handed to legislators from lobbyist groups. The legislators then make minor tweaks and present the lobbyist-written material as their own bill.
This process is considered acceptable by most legislators but is not generally understood by the American public.
I can tell what it’s called everywhere else in the world: corruption.

PIPA is only one P away from meaning “screw” (the sexual kind) in Swedish.
In Polish it is (exactly) a somewhat vulgar description of a woman (think maybe also ~”old whore” and not really in a promiscuous way), or of her reproductive organs, or of a “cowardly” (and so on) man.
Ahh, all the wonderful associations possible thanks to the tribes of Europe and their tongues
